Quote of the Day

"We're only here briefly, and while I'm here I want to allow myself joy. So fuck it."

Playing With Rhythm: My Own "Music"!?

So I got my Blue Yeti USB microphone for Christmas, and once I'd figured it all out, I had a little play around. I've always liked that kind of overlaying thing people do in music, where different parts will drop in and out, making it all one big, onion skinned piece of craziness. Hence, this happened:
(Just click on play)

Pretty rad, eh? That, ladies and gentlemen, is my vocal range. I'm available for weddings, bar-mitzvahs and funerals.

What The Fridge?!: Week 10

The whats have been keeping away from the fridges lately, but that's all about to change thanks to this hidden gem. Promising state of the art visual effects, and top notch, Oscar winning performances, I give you 2016: A Ghana Movie.

James Cameron: Eat your heart out!
Darn, it's only limited to a Ghana release... What a shame, that could have been such a classic in UK cinemas. I guess we're just not worthy of such a movie.

Trailer Tuesday: The Cabin in The Woods

You think you know the trailer...
A mind bending poster of cabin-rubix cube!
Why of course, a cabin in the woods, a group of young people looking for fun and then some gruesome, violent and meaningless deaths, right? Well, with this new Horror film, we might just see those cheesy conventions be ripped apart in the genre bending (and aptly named) The Cabin in The Woods.
"A group of friends at a cabin retreat scratch the surface of something so massive and horrific that they can only begin to fathom it as time quickly runs out." - IMDb
Starring Thor's Chris Hemsworth and a cast of "I recognise but can't name 'ems", Cabin is set to be the freaky film for 2012, with Cloverfield writer Drew Goddard directing, and co-writing with the almighty force that is Joss Whedon. Enjoy/Pee your Pants:

So as we can see, it starts off in some pretty familiar territory for the slasher/horror setup ("Yeah, road trip!", Creepy Old Man, derelict cabin etc.) until we get to about 1:00 when we see something else in play here. I'm sensing some Sci-Fi elements getting involved, with this mysterious force field malarkey. Then there's a lot of thriller type stuff with those surveillance rigs and lever-pulls, suggesting  somewhat of a conspiracy going on.

To me it looks like someone behind all this crazy stuff is pulling the strings and essentially building their own horror movie. Gas is being sent in to make them resort to stereotypical (and illogical) decisions (Let's split up!) and freaks are coming out of nowhere with lots of slice and slash. Could this be a Jigsaw type of deal, a la Saw, but on a larger and more intellectual scale? Those masked people, the swat teams, a facet of flowing blood; what the hell is going on here!?

Guess the only way to find out is see the god-damn movie when it kicks off in the UK on Friday the 13th (Yikes!) of April, 2012. Now I'm not usually a horror guy, but this is definitely a must watch for me: partly because of Whedon's involvement and partly because of the inevitable genre-deconstructions in place. Here's wishing for a 15 rating!

The Sunday Supdate: 18/09/11

So... this happened:

Yep. That's me. Dancing. Ridiculously. With my Sister.
Her dance presentation evening. Roughly 50 people. Fun Pairs Competition.
Got my groove on. 4th place. Trophy.
That's just how I roll.

Back In The Saddle
Earlier today I posted my review of 30 Minutes or Less, and contrary to popular belief, I was kind of dreading it before hand. I hadn't written a review in almost 2 months, and so such anxiousness was expected. Could I write it well enough, could I be bothered, was it worth it etcetera, etcetera. In the end I did it. Just sat down, pulled my finger(s) out and got on with it. And I enjoyed it. I had a blast typing through it and weaving my words together into a sensible pattern of reading. I'm pretty happy with the finished result and hopefully you are too.

Seriously, That's All You Have To Say?
Pretty much. Come on, surely the video's worth a bunch? Just loop it or something, to kill some time. Oh and help me out by voting on the poll. Thanks. Catch ya later.

Uhm... What? If ever there were a more relevant time for WTF, I'd like to see it.

What The Fridge?!: Week Six

So there I am, on a Tuesday morning, minding my own business on my laptop when this quite frankly disturbing phrase passes through my peripheral hearing. As a moment I couldn't miss, I rewound the clip to record it and share it with the world wide web. This Morning will never be the same again...

Yeah, he just said that. Live on TV. At about 10am. Seriously, what is wrong with you Eamonn, we all knew you like food but keep it down, yeah? Sheesh!

What The Fridge?!: Week Four

After a brief spell of absence, WTF returns with a multitude of pictures found on Funny Junk. Be warned; there are birds and there are arms.

Hit this link for a ton more at iywib.com, including some pop-culture references!

Thanks to Austen, who once wrestled with a bird who had 17 arms, and still came out unpenetrated!

What The Fridge?!: Week Two

Sticking with the Llama (at least that's what I think it is...?) theme from a couple of weeks ago, here's a completely "dope" photo of one of those mexican sheep.

"Huh??" indeed...

What The Fridge?!: Week One

And the debut WTF comes from none other than Mr Nathan Fillion, who posted this rather crass picture of the late Patrick Swayze on his Twitter.

Why, what and when this is happening, I'll leave up to you...

The Sunday Supdate: 29/05/11

The Return.

Yes, I'm back after a week of un-supdated-ness. Apologies if you missed me, but don't be too worried because you're in luck with this considerably monster-sized update! (Assuming that I can find enough things to talk about - I do make this up as I go along, after all.)

Okay, so "WHERE THE CHEESE BALLING THUMPER CATS HAVE I BEEN!?!?!"?. In short, nowhere. The lack of a Supdate last week was in fact wholly unnecessary, and should be blamed solely on my shoddy, uninterested brain. In even shorter terms: CBA. No matter, comrades; I will work harder!

Anyway, here's the first picture of Tom Hardy (Inception, Bronson) as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises:

Pretty sweet, huh? The mask design looks very contemporary and thankfully non-camp (ala Batman and Robin)and director Nolan's style is flawless, as ever. I know it's a bit old now, but absence is absence, and I really wanted to include it; especially for those of you who's eyes haven't graced its presence as of yet.

On the topic of movies, I saw Pirates 4 (after a bit of a Hangover 2 cuffufle)  today and was pleasantly surprised by it.  Depp was as good as ever, and there was a great showcase of  recognisable faces on screen (Richard Griffiths, Stephen Graham). In all honesty, it was far more enjoyable than I had expected and reminded me a lot of Indy's The Last Crusade, what with the "hunting down of a mythical object" angle of the plot line. RE:View? Stay tuned...

I also seem to be getting really into Joss Whedon's works at the moment. As you know, I expressed interest in his sci-fi/western series, Firefly, a couple of weeks ago (of which I am now in love with) and have since expanded into some of his other stuff. Namely: Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Possibly the only good thing to come out of the writer strike of 2008, this delightful tragi-comedy musical web-series has been stuck in my head for the last two days. Here's a taster:

Yep, it's the openly awesome Neil Patrick Harris!

You can actually find the whole thing on YouTube if you want to check it out in its entirety, which I implore you to. Seriously, you'll thank me. You may even want to buy this after:
Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog: The Book

Now I know the hits have dived this month, and you can't blame really blame the little guys. There's been very little activity and nothing new has flourished yet. But hold onto your savoury snacks, because I'd like to (try to) introduce the new WTF (What The Fridge) weekly feature. It could be a picture, video, track or generally anything that makes no sense and just makes you question humanity, the world or even yourself. Suggestions would be nice too, if you ever have anything in mind. And the best thing; it's not going to be restricted to a certain day of the week! It could be anytime! Okay, so maybe that's not the best thing, but it certainly helps me out having no commitment deadlines (Tuesdays can be a tough squeeze).

Stuff like this? I think so.
That's all for now, so come back in the week for the first WTF, a new trailer, maybe an RE:View and if you're really lucky, perhaps a special feature. Stay safe now.

Instant Happy Face: Ladder Goat

Don't worry, it'll all make perfect sense...

Are you feeling down? Saddened by the futures prospects? Upset that I haven't posted since Thursday nor done an RE:View yet? Then I have just the solution: anti-depressants Ladder Goat!

Prepare to have your minds blown and your sides split as your roflcopter takes flight when watching this painfully hilarious clip; after the wtf's have passed, that is. Yep, it's a Dutch guy playing a game (Call of Juarez, I believe) and laughing his head off in a rather peculiar manner, after witnessing a strange incident involving one very big-balled goat. I'll say no more, in fear of spoiling it for you. Enjoy!

(Just remember to stop watching it after about 4 minutes, it gets kind of crappy from there on out.)
